Douglas Lumber, Kitchens & Home Center Improves Efficiencies with Ponderosa Software

March 10, 2016  – Douglas Lumber, Kitchens & Home Center is one of the largest independent contractor lumberyards in New England, announced that it is using Ponderosa Software to improve efficiency and reduce software support costs.

Douglas Lumber, Kitchens & Home Center operates a 100,000 square foot facility located on a 15-acre lot in Smithfield, Rhode Island.  A newly renovated flooring department offers hardwood, carpet, tile, VCT and laminate flooring from major national brands.  Douglas Lumber installs every flooring product they sell.   The company manages a large fleet of delivery trucks which deliver material throughout New England.

Upgrading Point-of-Sale Stations to Support Chip-based EMV Cards, Guard Against Losses

As a retailer with several point-of-sale (POS) stations, Douglas realized that it needed to eventually upgrade the stations to support the new chip-based (EMV) payment to guard against liabilities and losses arising from a data breach or when a fraudulent card is used in their store.

These EMV cards, which contain a chip that stores the consumer’s data replace the card’s traditional magnetic stripe—makes it harder for hackers to make a counterfeit of the card if they steal the account information. The card generates a unique code for every transaction so if fraudsters steal data from a retailer, they won’t be able to use that information to make future purchases.

“We recently completed this major upgrade of our ERP business software, including an overhaul of our POS stations for the new EMV chip-based payment cards. After some challenges with the hardware and its supplier, the guys at Ponderosa were on the spot resolving the issues with minimal impact and disruption to our day-to-day operations.
