August 2, 2011 — Seasoft Software today announced a new integration with Trace Register, an on-demand web-based system that meets the full traceability requirements of producers, processors, distributors and retailers of wild-caught and farmed seafood.
Used by over 600 companies around the world, the Trace Register systemTM functions as an independent, third-party “registry” into which product and traceability information is entered, secured, and shared among companies through the supply chain. It overlays the physical supply chain with an “information supply chain” that connects trading partners.
Phil Werdal, CEO for Trace Register said, “We are very pleased that a leading seafood software company such as Seasoft has elected to offer a direct interface to the Trace Register system. The interface will make it straightforward for its seafood processing and distribution customers to start using the Trace Register system. By providing on-demand, source-to-sale traceability, Seasoft and Trace Register will protect the value of a seafood company’s brand in the marketplace and help maintain customer confidence and a perception of value in their products.”
The Trace Register system can trace wild caught product back to the fishing vessel and the location of capture. The system is also an ideal tool for aquaculture businesses, providing full traceability back to the pond, pen or hatchery and to the day and time of harvest. In addition, Trace Register can go beyond the pond and tell you what feed and treatments are used, where they come from, and how they are produced. It can also capture the ingredients added to finished product as it moves through the supply chain.
“In order to have full traceability, you must first control inventory,” said Frank Motta, Managing Director at Seasoft. “When you control inventory, you control your business. By providing a direct link to the Trace Register database, Seasoft users can trace product from ocean to shelf with a push of a button―saving significant time and labor costs. Better still, the system gives them the ability to answer questions about a specific product’s origins so they can confidently promote their products as coming from sustainable fisheries and harvesting practices.”
The Trace Register system is also designed to efficiently handle both paper-based and electronic documentation that product accumulates as it moves through the supply chain. This official paperwork includes details such as fishing licenses and quotas, mate’s certificates, import documentation, and company-generated information such as lab reports, product certificates, and trans-shipment records. Seasoft lets you easily upload important documents into the Trace Register database which then can be reviewed by authorized users in the supply chain.
