Barcodes can include detailed information related to method of production (M.O.P.) and production location, processing, pack weight and pack date, inspection, vendor information, lot numbers, PO, expiration date, country of origin and other information.
Seafood processors can assign barcodes and lot numbers to containers of finished goods as well as raw materials used in producing a batch of finished product. Bar codes can be scanned at a later date to drill down through production lots to the raw materials in the case of a recall. This saves considerable time and money on a recall by limiting it only to products affected by the specific problem or vendor material lot.
